Treatment & Therapies
Family Behavioral Health Center believes that in order for treatments to be effective, they must remain fluid and be adjusted continually, to meet changing demands of the challenges they are designed to address, Family Behavioral Health Center employs individual or family-focused treatment plans on day one and adjustments are made throughout the therapeutic process to ensure all areas of concern are met.
A broad overview of some of our frequently requested therapy programs is below:
At Family Behavioral Health Center, we are committed to working together with children, adolescents, and their parents toward the goal of improving their quality of life. We provide a comprehensive diagnostic and treatment approach to assist emotional, psychological, and behavioral difficulties.
Family therapy is a way to bring parents, siblings and extended family members together in hopes of resolving specific issues such as divorce, parent-child conflict or the death of a loved one. The primary goal of family therapy is to strengthen the family system as a whole by identifying strengths and weaknesses, improving communication skills and developing strategies to resolve future challenges.
Marriage & Family Therapy
In marriage and family therapy, the unit of treatment isn't just the person - even if only a single person is interviewed - it is the set of relationships in which the person is embedded. Marriage and family therapy is brief, solution-focused, and specific, with attainable therapeutic goals, designed with the “end in mind”. Marriage and family therapists treat a wide range of serious clinical problems including: depression, marital problems, anxiety, individual psychological problems, and child-parent problems.
Parent-Child Interaction Therapy
Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) is an empirically-supported treatment for young children (ages 2-7) with emotional and behavioral disorders that places emphasis on improving the quality of the parent-child relationship and changing parent-child interaction patterns. PCIT utilizes a live-coaching model wherein parents are in a therapy room with their child while the therapist coaches via a bug-in-the-ear device from an observation room.
Group Therapy Programs
Group therapy is offered to children and adolescents who are experiencing difficulties with emotion regulation and/or social skills. In our emotion regulation group, participants are taught emotion identification and coping skills. The Social Thinking(r) groups follow the theoretical framework set up by Michelle Garcia Winner. These groups teach participants the "why" behind using social skills. Both groups offer the benefit of peer feedback and discussion, in addition to presenting sensitive information in a positive supportive environment.
Academic Advantage Program
This program is designed to help children learn how to organize their school and study materials, which is an invaluable life skill.
Social Skills Training
Social Thinking groups help children learn how to respond and communicate with others by teaching them how to think about others thoughts, feelings, and actions. This will impact how children behave and subsequently how others respond to them. This group does not focus on diagnostic classification, it has been proven helpful for children with Autism (high functioning), Asperger's, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, and social communication disorders.
Cog-Med Working Memory Training
Cog-Med is a non-medication treatment available for individuals diagnosed with ADHD. It is an evidence-based, computerized training program designed to improve attention by effectively increasing working memory capacity.
Children and families benefit from the multidisciplinary team approach used at FBHC, which can include all professionals (i.e., psychologist, speech language pathologist, and/or academic consultant) working with the child and/or family. This approach creates a unified team that works together to create an individually tailored treatment plan, which is communicated and followed across treatment providers.
